Inside Out 2 is Pixar Animation Studios’ and Walt Disney Pictures’ animated movie that is planned for the release in 2024. SGF has been directed by Kelsey Mann while the film’s producer is Mark Nielsen, screenplay has been penned by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein and Mann and LeFauve have done the story of the film.

Concept and Production

The hope of new feelings during Riley’s teenage years is one of the themes portrayed in the film. Continuing the ‘five to 27 emotions’ tradition from the original movie, Inside Out 2 turned to psychologists and teenagers to get the picture of the emotionally charged puberty. It was revealed for the first time in September of 2022 at the Expo D23.

Release and Reception

It boasts the world premier setting of on June 10, 2024 at the El Capitan Theatre, Los Angeles followed by the US theaters release on June 14. It was well applauded by the audiences and collected $1. 510 billion on the international market, making it the highest-grossing picture of the 2024, as well as the second highest-grossing world’s animation picture, as well as the highest-grossing picture from Pixar studios.

Plot Summary

Setting the Stage

 High school begins for Riley Andersen who is 13 years old two years after the family relocated to San Francisco. It is a management of a new component called ‘Sense of Self’, containing memories that form her beliefs and so are operated by her emotions of Joy, Sadness, Fear and Disgust and Anger. Joy is determined to substitute it with positive feelings, forcing the negative ones out of Riley’s mind.

Teenage girl Riley, her friends Bree and Grace, goes to the ice-hockey camp and dreams of joining the Firehawks team of her school. There is a “Puberty Alarm” the night before camp, resulting to a new upgrade of the emotion console. Riley’s feelings suggest that she becomes oversensitive to inputs, and four new feelings – Fear, Jealousy, Shyness, and Boredom confront the five primary ones.

Conflict and Resolution

 Joy’s attempt to entice Riley and control her ends in conflicts experienced at camp and within Riley. Fitting in corresponds to Riley’s increased anxiety which destabilizes Sense of Self and leaves anxiety at the forefront. This creates a conflict of interest pressure in Riley’s friendship and performance. The core emotions that Riley gets after trying to break out from the memory vault are the aspects of her Sense of Self — and it is negative. Using specific products such as Joy, she convinces Anxiety that Riley does not have to change and ends the movie with a balanced Sense of Self which consists of both happy and sad memories.

Production and Development

Inside Out, the movie was produced in 2015 and as expected, a sequel to the move was to be made. In September 2022, the sequel to Inside Out was announced during the D23 Expo directed by Kelsey Mann along with Mark Nielsen as producer and Meg LeFauve coming back as writer for the movie, though this is Kelsey Mann’s feature directorial debut.

The plot of the film was created by Mann and LeFauve by early 2020 based on the workers’ cycle of five to 27 emotions by the original director, Pete Docter.

Research and Writing

 The team hired a consulting psychologist Lisa Damour and a professor from the University of California Dacher Keltner to monitor the portrayal of emotions typical of teenagers. Also, Pixar used a team of teenagers known as Riley’s Crew to contribute to advisory, which saw the addition of feelings such as Nostalgia. Mann and Nielsen’s own experiences in life especially the period of Covid-19 played a significant role in the making of the film.Casting Amy Poehler appeared in the movie as the character, Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness and Lewis Black as Anger. That said; Pay issues derailed the appearances of Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling as Fear and Disgust were replaced by Tony Hale and Liza Lapira. Newcomers are Maya Hawke for Anxiety, Ayo Edebiri as Envy as well as June Squib, Nostalgia. The following year Kensington Tallman inherited Riley Andersen from Shawn Ashmore; Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan resumed their portrayal of Riley’s parents.

S theaters on 14. June, 2024 depicts the positive response of the audiences and collected $1. 510 billion worldwide. It was surpassed only in ticket sales by Avatar and became the record holder in ticket sales of the year 2024 in international markets and the most successful Pixar’s picture up to date.

Viewers appreciated its colors, plot, and addition of new feelings. Still, some criticized that the external storyline is rather conventional. Inside out 2 has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 91% which reveals that this film is a good sequel of the original movie that continues the emotional experience for a viewer
