TOP GUN: Maverick Review

At first Tom Cruise didn’t accept an idea of a Top Gun sequel considering it as irresponsible. But Paramount Pictures managed to convince Jerry Bruckheimer, Tony Scott for a sequel with Tom Cruise. Scott promised to show aerial combat without repeating the earlier story. After the tragic death of Tony Scott in 2012, this idea remained in the shelf till 2017.

In June 2017 , Cruise revealed that the sequel would be named as Top Gun Maverick , In July 2017 Joseph Kosinski was announced as the director, Later Cruise requested Jim Gianopulos to make the film .In 2019 China’s Tencent invested 12.5% of the film but later pulled out of the project that theme of the film could enrage Chinese government.

Cruise Casting in Top Gun: Maverick was announced in 2016 and he was paid almost $13 million plus a portion of box office gross which were close to $100 millions in total.

Val Kilmer who was Cancer free then, was cast, along with Miles Teller, Nicholas Hoult, and Glen Powell. Jennifer Connelly joined the film cast as single mother running bar. In the same period, Monica Barbaro, Thomas McKenzie, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez, Ef Harris, Jon Hamm, and Lewis Pullman joined the cast of the film.

Set 30 years later, the story revolves around Maverick rejoining the US Navy’s TOP GUN program .While mentoring a new generation of pilots, he reminisces his past, including son of his friend goose.

Producers paid the Navy $11374 per flight hour for F/A -18-E d F/A – 18-F single and dual seats. Initial production on the film started on May 30′ 2018, in San Diego. The crew filmed aerial shots at Naval Air Station. Production Crew acquired 20 working aircrafts including F/A-18E/F. Harold Top Gun composer Faltermeyer repeated his role.

Paramount Pictures released Top Gun: “Top Gun: Maverick” officially hit theaters on May 27, 2022. The world premiere for the film was held on Wednesday April 28, 2022 at CinemaCon. The global premiere for the film was hosted at the San Diego Civic Theatre, on May 4th. 

It was screened in Cannes Film Festival On May 18, 2022 TOP GUN: The film, Maverick, made $718.7 M in the U.S. and Canada territories and $777M elsewhere. Worldwide total amount of money earned $1.496 billion.

Rotten Tomatoes reviewed 96% of 474 critics reviews are positive. Average Rating 8.2/10.
