Finally, having a second much happier meeting with Atlas in unlikely circumstances, a possible future is subtly suggested for Lily.
Production and Alleged Conflict
Justin Baldoni announced his intention to adapt the novel in 2019, to both direct and act in it, alongside Blake Lively. Principal photography started in May 2023 in Hoboken, New Jersey, however, the strikes of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA slowed the shoot. The other members of cast: Alex Neustaedter as young Atlas, Isabela Ferrer as young Lily, Amy Morton as Jenny, Lily’s mother. The creation of music for the film was done by Rob Simonsen and the soundtrack was produced by, and available through, Madison Gate Records.
What is more, the production process was described as being fraught with conflict between Lively and the director Baldoni. Further reshoots prompted rumours of a behind-the-scenes disagreement after Lively was said to have hired an editor for a new version of the movie. This conflict became more evident in publicity events; Baldoni ceased to tour jointly with Pino, as their promotional posters reveal. The cut that was premiered in theatres was said to have been more preferred by Lively.
Critics’ Response and ‘Market Return

Nevertheless, the CinemaScore gave the film an ‘A–’ rating and the PostTrak subscribers expressed a significant approval.
Wendy Ide of The Observer said, ‘Three stars It may be a hard-knock life but this is also aspirational even if the story is mostly grim’. The acting was lauded, particularly Johanna Schneller of *The Globe and Mail* on Lively’s portrayal of Lily; and the storyline was also appreciated, by Kevin Maher of *The Times*. On the other hand, judgment came from Hannah Giorgis of The Atlantic which states that the film failed to deal with these serious issues properly and what Sandra Hall of The Sydney Morning Herald described to be corny dialogues and loud and intense music.
Promotion and Controversy
Blake Lively, during the promotion campaign for her movie targeted on the issue of domestic violence, was criticized for her careless attitude toward the problem. Some deemed her efforts to sell her own brand and urging women to wear flowers in their outfit relevant in the film as sexual. Lively later on Instagram defended domestic violence victims and provided links to help. *The Hollywood Reporter* claimed that the motion picture failed to communicate seriousness of its theme in the advertisement.
Future Prospects
After the movie release, Baldoni agreed that there might be an adaptation process of the sequel novel, It Starts with Us. Though, he blurted out that Blake Lively might direct it, indicating at a new course that the consequent sequel might opt for.
